The Atkins Diet that encourages high dairy and meat protein and fats, that 'eventually' plug up everyone's liver have not changed.
I agree with low carb high protein, just not making a diet of dairy-calcium, meat-cholesterol, and too many fats like I used to do.
Campbell's "The China Study" agrees with this view.
The people who are profiting from Atkins methods have changed only a little since Dr. Atkins passing. When it pays the bills it is hard to change one's view of the simple facts. Similar to someone who sells cigarettes for a living, who insists nicotine is not a carcinogen or addictive.

SOOoo you would not duplicate my own naivete, with yourself or with those you love, to your own hurt.
I WISH you good health with better info and insights than I have had.
I've done very well on it, lost 35 lbs so far. I've also found that most of my aches and pains have gone away, but they come back if I start back on high-carbs.
Drawbacks: First of all, not everyone will lose weight as fast as he indicates. It's common for people to stall on the 3rd or 4th week. If you have a lot of weight to lose, you will probably find it goes in fits and starts. I personally tend to lose a bunch, then stay at the same weight for a long time, then lose a bunch more. However, I feel that this is my body adapting to it's new composition and shape. Give it time and stick to the plan, the weight will eventually come off.
The first week you will probably go through "induction flu" which is withdrawal from sugar. I was exhausted and my arm and legs felt like they weighed a ton. Once I got past that I was fine. Others experience actual flu-like symptoms.
The general consensus is to stick to real foods and avoid low-carb "products" as much as possible. Atkins is about learning a healthy new lifestyle, not substituting one kind of crap for another. Most of your carbs should be coming from veggies.
When you are in ketosis, you may have a funny taste/odor on your breath and odor in your urine from the ketones. You get used to it, many people suck on sugar free mints or chew sugarless gum to offset it. Personally, when I get that funny taste I'm happy because I know I'm burning fat.
The main thing is to make it a lifestyle. If you think of it as a "diet" that you're going to end, it becomes tedious – especially during those times when you are not losing. I now concentrate on eating in a healthy fashion and doing my exercise, I feel that in the long run my body will eventually settle at a weight that it is best for it.
I'm a member of a low-carb forum which I've found very helpful. The people there are really supportive, and it's motivating for me to go there regularly. There's lots of recipes too. They have a section devoted strictly to Atkins.
how effective a "diet" is is measured on how sustainable it is. In other words, how realistic long term compliance will be. Because if you cant sustain it (i.e. its a fad) then you go back to your old ways and guess what, you gain again, and usually more fat through muscle loss.
A cabbage soup diet is going to be nowhere near as sustainable as a rounded low fat diet. Which one do you think is going to give better LONG TERM results?
NORMAL sugar level do not cause problems in any one! that is why they are NORMAL!
Sugar is the fuel your body uses to grow, heal, and reproduces. You MUST have SOME sugar in your blood, or you will pass out, go into a coma, and die.
a NORMAL level is between 80 and 120. in EVERYONE, if level are higher than that for a long period of time (several weeks) then damage is caused — even in a "normal" person.
However, SCIENTIFIC research show Dr. Atkins' statements to be wrong. "Cross molecular protein links" is just a bunch of meaningless words used to "sound official" and impress people.
you would be MUCH better off to visit http://www.diabetes.org and get some REAL information.
AHHH THIS IS STUPID…not the vid but dieting. I didn’t eat for five days an di lost 8 lbs!!! I dieted and lost no weight at all. I can’t take it anymore might as well not eat…
nah i haven't read them. basically they way i lost weight is the way everyone always says "diet and exercise bla bla bla" lol. i did cardio to burn fat like swimming, biking, hiking, walking, etc. i ate healthy like grilled chicken instead of fried etc.
you can search the web there's a plethora of info about weight loss.
Separate eggs very carefully (make sure NONE of the yolk gets into the white.) Spray PAM on a Teflon cookie sheet. Use an electric beater to beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff (but not dry).
Mix egg yolks, cottage cheese and Splenda in separate bowl. Fold yolk-mixture carefully into egg whites being sure not to break down fragile whites — mix no longer than 1 minute.
Place the mixture carefully on the cookie sheet, gently putting one tablespoon on top of another until it is two (2) inches in height. Repeat until you have 6 little "pillows." Place the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for 35-55 minutes (depending on your firmness preference.)
Makes 6 rolls. 1 net gram of carbohydrate per serving.
NOTE: We have substituted Splenda for the old Sugar Twin recommended in the 70's. Use your preferred sweetener.
No difference between the two.
